The Soccerwise Program

Soccerwise helps young students towards a greater sense of rights, responsibilities and more importantly, how they can translate them into real life experiences. It also helps them develop improved educational attainment, social skills and vocational opportunities benefiting both the individual and the wider community.

The key themes identified in the Soccerwise pack are; education, health, social order and the environment. The programme runs for a school term with a project developed as part of a citizenship forum. The schools forum provides a continued experience for young Soccerwise participants as well as exposing them to public/private sector and wider community multi agency working as they develop their project proposals and translate them into reality.

In November 2003 Sir Alex Ferguson presented special achievement awards to pupils from Burnage High, The Albion and Gorse Hill primary school.

Youth Charter Soccerwise Report

Launch date - September 2008. Available from October 2008

The ‘Beautiful Game’ has played a major role in the work of the Youth Charter. This ground breaking report attempts to chart that incredible journey from the gangster activity of Moss Side to all five continents and how education, health and human development through a soccer ball can be achieved.

The Charter’s work is presented with case studies with some of the biggest names in the game and biggest clubs in the world. The Soccerwise report also provides innovative and challenging recommendations as to how the richest league in the world and the most popular game in the world makes a greater impact on the hearts, minds and streets where the game is most popular and above all influential. The Foreword of this report is written by FIFA President, Sepp Blatter.
