Youthwise 2 Work is a programme designed to help young people to get back into education, training and employment.
The programme is designed to be a pathway to employment by supporting the individual and assisting them to grow in confidence through achieving the goals set for them. It is based upon behaviour and performance principles with transferable life skills and benefits.

Being able to take the right action is vital to achieve goals. Many young people know what they want in life but not how to achieve it. They are frightened of the system because they lack certain fundamental skills e.g. a sound basic education.
Action planning assists the young person to develop a strategy that identifies what they individually need to do to achieve their goals, who can assist them to achieve these targets and putting them in touch with the people who can help them.

The training has to be relevant to the young person. There must be an immediate tangible outcome that has a direct bearing on their self esteem as this will reinforce the 'feel good' factor and take them further away from the security they feel through behaving negatively.

To hold down a job a person needs to meet certain standards of behaviour and skills. Some young people have no concept of the work ethic. They come from homes where neither parents or parent work. They do not know what is expected of them in the work place because for many of them their only experience of discipline in the work place has been in school.
This may have been a very negative one, therefore, they need employment skills and employment codes of ethics. If we are going to develop the 21st Century Worker, then we must anticipate the needs of the 21st Century. It is likely that the work force will need to develop its skills actively over time. Therefore, we must give the young people an insight into the technology which they will use in the future and develop in them a wish to learn more.

Young people's negative behaviour reflects the fragmented community in which they live. This programme demonstrates to the participating young people and to the wider community, the need for supporting each other and the need for voluntary work to keep the community thriving.

Based on our philosophy, aims and objectives, the Youthwise Toolkit will be an invaluable aid to individuals or groups by assisting in the creation and maintenance of Youthwise modules and social community programmes with a specfic brief for youth community project managers.
