Climate Change is now one of the major issues facing our communities and societies locally, nationally and internationally. The future impact that will be felt by generations to come need to be addressed by the generations of today.
Carbonwise is an educational and community experience which will educate and inform today's citizens with a healthy attitude and lifestyle choice within the rights and responsibilities on the issues of climate change. Carbonwise will contributr and as a result prevent the potential of conflict and global inequality.
Carbonwise will create awareness and discussion that will lead to action being taken to improve the environment and life chances of future global citizens.
The environment will be better informed with Carbonwise, bringing together schools and communities that will be the future custodians of Mother Earth.
Carbonwise is a school based and wider community climate challenge initiative looking at how sport and the arts can engage young people to become responsible carbon citizens.
Delivered as part of the Youth Charter's 'Citizenship in Action' initiative, Carbonwise delivers the final module of four key themes (education, health, social order and the environment) in our school based Citizenship in Action education programme.
Carbonwise is designed to promote awareness of the importance of global warming and the part that we can all play in our schools and communities. Carbonwise is sponsored by the DEFRA Climate Challenge Fund.

The initiative is aimed at secondary schools up and down the country, but in particular in urban settings where climate change is often something people feel doesn't affect their everyday lives or local environment.
The initiative will aim to deliver to existing eco-schools and other schools willing to get on board, an educational programme for the Citizenship PSHE curriculum. There will also be a 'Carbonwise Day' where the school will become the focal point of the community. Wider agency participation will be encouraged with workshops and carbon emission friendly innovations will be showcased.
There will also be a one-day workshop, which will aim to train as well as bring together young people, professionals and volunteers with 'Carbon Coaches', the legacy benefit of this initiative .
Schools will be selected from the existing network of Citizenship in Action and Eco and other interested Schools. Each school will be required to demonstrate their commitment to Climate Change programmes and projects and promote Carbon Active Citizenship. We will have 18,000 Think Purple packs to give away free!
Interactive web based networks will also be established with news, events, programmes and good practice shared between the participating schools nationally. A programme of Carbonwise roadshows to schools will also raise awareness of climate change. A report will be produced at the end of the one-year programme providing both quantitative and qualitative outcomes of this exciting and challenging opportunity.
The Carbonwise "There's Something in the Air" initiative will begin in March 2007 and run for one school year concluding in February 2008.
