Citizenship in Action: CIA ZAMBIA

Hosted by the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development in conjunction with the UKs Department of Trade and Industry in 1999. The Youth Charter delivered a full educational programme through sport at the Kabanana Middle Basic School in Lusaka. This tour led to the launch of numeracy, literacy and HIV/AIDS awareness projects at the grassroots level in partnership with the Global Sports International.

PROJECT BACKGROUND
As part of a DTI Trade Mission, sports and cultural activity, citizenship and rights education to socially disaffected and deprived communities. HIV/Aids awareness also highlighted as part of overall weeks activities. Hosted by the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development in conjunction with the UK’s Department of Trade and Industry in 1999. The Youth Charter delivered a full educational programme through sport at the Kabanana Middle Basic School in Lusaka.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES
This tour led to the launch of numeracy, literacy and HIV/AIDS awareness projects at the grassroots level in partnership with the Global Sports International. The Youthwise project was piloted at an International school with soccer and karate modules introduced. Charitable agencies were identified as potential social centres of excellence.

Aaron Zyambo, a former international athlete has continued the development of the Youth Charter work with ongoing contribution and effort in the now established U.K. Sport supported HIV Aids initiatives and other social and human development related projects and programmes that have been established. David Mwanza has also been assisted as part of the Youth Charter’s international student programme and has contributed to the Youth Charter’s Manchester based office and work in areas of international social development and economic impact of sport and the arts in education, health and community development.
