Liverpool FC director Tom Hicks Junior has been sacked for sending an abusive email to a concerned fan. The emails were sent to Mr Horner calling him ‘an idiot’ as he had raised his concerns about the state of the club, he sent a second abusive communication and copied in Liverpool’s financial and commercial directors Philip Nash and Ian Ayre, before a third apologetic email was sent. WFTS comments - so much for being close to the fans.

A teenager was shot in what police described as a targeted attack in his own home on New Years Day in Liverpool. The 18-year-old had gunshot wounds to his back and stomach. Three men, aged 50, 25 and 23, and a 46-year-old woman have been arrested and are being questioned by police about the attack. Det Supt Richardson added: “Whilst I believe this to be a targeted incident, it was a cold-blooded and brazen attack on a young man in his own home.

The number pupils being moved from one St Helens school to another due to poor behaviour has increased significantly in the past year. The number of primary school pupils being given a ‘fresh start’ at a new school has doubled in a year from 19 to 32. The number of secondary school pupils moving school due to ‘challenging behaviour’ increased from 30 to 35. St Helens council said it was because requirements to ‘ensure that all schools and academies admit their fair share of children with challenging behaviour’.

Lancashire police have been conducting roadside stop and searches in order to tackle a rise in burglaries and robberies attributed to criminals from Merseyside and Manchester. Operation Vault has been launched to disrupt the activities of armed thieves that are travelling to the county. Lancashire assistant chief constable Andy Cooke said: ‘Many of our armed robberies are carried out by criminals based in Greater Manchester and Merseyside and our message to them is simple: If you want to come to Lancashire to commit robberies and burglaries and to steal high powered vehicles don’t bother because we will catch you.’

Merseyside Police are said to have known of concerns about dangerous dogs at an address where four year old, John Paul Masey, from Liverpool was horrifically mauled to death by an illegal pitbull. His uncle, Christian Foulkes, 21, who owned the dog has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter.

Everton FC has had their plans for a move to a new stadium in Kirkby turned down by the government. This has led to calls for a ground-sharing move with rivals and neighbours Liverpool FC. Liverpool FC’s plans for a new stadium have stalled because of the recession, a lack of available credit and their current £350m debts. WFTS comments - Lets see a World Class multi-purpose stadium built as for both clubs to share, similar the Stade de France that is capable of hosting International Athletics events and Commonwealth games. That would truly have a lasting legacy for the city. It could be part of a Commonwealth games and International Athletics bid, if the City Council took the lead along with the regional development agency and national government, saying that Everton FC can use it and that Liverpool FC are welcome to join them. It could be regional stadium for the North West.!?!?

Teachers at schools in Knowsley have been told not take pictures of pupils in PE kit. The Knowsley Council policy refers to pictures taken of pupils in PE kits as being ‘inappropriate’, with the move seen as making the safety of children and teacher’s ‘a top priority’. Also in the council’s new policy directive’s teachers are asked to refrain from using their own camera’s to guard against ‘potential dangers’ lurking on school trips. WFTS comments - these moves do not protect children or teachers, they only serve to restrict ability of teachers and pupils to work together.

A combination of mistakes by social services and the Youth Offending Service has been blamed for failings, which led to the death of 15-year-old boy at Lancaster Farms prison in Lancashire. Liam McManus, from St Helens, hung himself in 2007 with a single bed sheet in his cell. Liam had been in care from a young age and had a history of self-harm.

Two of the students from Pakistan who were arrested in the North West in April are to be released. The pair, Sultan Sher and Janus Khan were never charged, but remained in custody awaiting deportation. The solicitor representing Mr Sher has called for an independent inquiry, as the detention had been a ‘very serious’ breach of human rights. Twelve students from the North West were originally arrested and three were released. Sher and Khan will be required to wear electronic tags whilst they are in the country as the Home Office still wishes to deport them due to visa irregularities.

Jack Straw has refused to pardon jailed football fan Michael Shields as he could not conclude that the 22 year old was morally and technically innocent over the attempted murder of a barman in Bulgaria in 2005. However, the ‘actual’ attacker did come forward and admit the attack. The parents of Sheilds are said to be furious with the Justice secretary’s decision.
